What new ideas for promoting/marketing an art gallery are out there? I need ideas for tag lines, events promotions and print ads for an art gallery that carries mainly realistic art/sculpture/paintings in the southeast. We'd like to get rid of our stale image and slogan of "bringing fine art to the southesast" with something hipper and more appealing. The gallery is in a resort area is elegant but also casual....any idea for promotional events that other galleries have used successfully would be appreciated!!
ok, i was offered by a talent marketing guy that he will market my art, an get clients in exchange? for 25% of sales for the next 5 years from anything generated from the sales of art, he would get the clients an market that would be his part. but anything even contacts generated would be subject to 25% of anything sold within the 5 years. how does this sound ? should i go with it? has anyone else done something like this oh yea an he said i would have to pay expenses, like brochures or whatever might come up. although its my say weither i approve it or not well he also said he finds places to hang art also, like public apperances an stuff

I want to take a Master degree in arts marketing, which US university do you suggest best? Actually my background is Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. But I have organizational experiences in marketing the Asian traditional performances to global audiences, so I want to learn more about it and take a Master degree on it. Any state and location will do. Just suggest which uni you knew best in arts/tourism marketing. Or the contact professor in case somebody knows. Thank you for your kind help.
Please feed my students: Looking for potential art market outlets? I am a college instructor in studio arts, and I have students who would like to learn about lesser known creative arts markets. I'm aware of SF&F/Anime/gaming -conventions and historical recreation groups, and there are a number of very small local shops that offer alternative clothing, jewlery, sculpture, etc... Are there any other *major* art market outlets for original or alternative functional art? My students make clothing, jewelery, personal accessories, sculpture, and multi-media two/three-dimentional wall art. Thanks for any and all useful suggestions!
What do I need for an art market? I was selected for an Art Market coming up in the first weekend of June. I've never done one before and realize I have no idea what Im doing. It's a cubicle style setup and wonder what I will need to hang my artwork, and will I need receipts? I already have made prints of my work, so should I get bags as well? Business cards maybe? Maybe something I've missed completely? Any help will be appreciated. Oh...also, its indoors...so do you think lighting will be a problem?
What is the current art market looking for? I have been painting for 30 years off and on. Old school I guess you could say. Landscape oils. And I've always tried to keep up with what the galleries are looking for. And at the same time trying to keep and develop my own style. Now I'm at a point where I am ready to get back into the gallery scene again. Are the galleries still looking for oil painting landscapes, and if so where is the place to start looking?
How do I find an agent to market my art? I am an artist from South Africa that would like to market my art in the right way and to the right client. Searching for an agent has proved futile, I am increasingly fearful that they don't exist! Has anyone ever seen one alive? Is this the best way to go? Please help. Will mention you in my art award acceptance speech!
Do you consider marketing an art form? Yes you market/promote people for the money, but I believe it is an artform because you can't just throw somebody out there and expect them to sell (I am a BCC fan and know this very well). To me you have to have creativity (the root of art) to be able to market someone well. So what are your thoughts on marketing and promotion as an artform? Yes this Q is for you. Bonnie, this one can go on for days. Marketing is a huge art, you have to make things look better than they are. And you can't do that without art. Music takes talent, so can you denounce music as an artform? Bonnie, I guess we agree to disagree, I sure did miss your essay answers while you were gone.
What are the best ways to market your art online? I've heard that ebay can be lucrative for selling art. Does anyone have experience in this? What about online galleries that require a small charge to show thumbnails or your work? Do these sites really have a big draw of buyers?
AA in Business Marketing or Culinary Arts? I'm planning on a return to school. I'd like to get into the foodservice/ restaurant industry. The culinary arts program I'm looking at doesn't seem to look at the business side. Would a marketing degree be a better way to go. Saddleback College has a good business dept, but I think I need to take my lumps in the kitchen to excel in the industry? Thoughts
What sustains black markets for priceless art and antiquities? When a well-known masterpiece of art, or a priceless antiquity is stolen, presumably there is somebody willing to pay for it. But who buys these things on the black market? Presumably you couldn't risk letting ANYONE see them -- it's not like you can impress your guests with your fine artifacts if there's a chance they'll recognize them as stolen. Nor can you publicize your collection if it includes stolen items. So what drives the black market for priceless artifacts?
What is the job market like for art students? I'm doing some research but just thought I'd ask on here, too. I am thinking of going back to school and taking art and creative writing classes, but I'm curious as to what jobs in this field that there will be after I graduate. I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging at all, but I can draw well (when I was a kid I wanted to illusrate comic books like X-Men) and I love anything to do with theater or movie making. Also, I love to write. Romance and some serious stuff, too. Any help?
Do you know Damian Hurst art work? It is a human skull made out of diamonds. I believe it is selling for $20 million!! Many people think it is absurd to make an artwork that is so expensive, but that is what makes it interesting. It makes people uneasy about the relationship between art and money. To make an artwork like this in today's art market with so many rich people spending so much money, it is only natural. What do you think?
Contemporary Asian Art Market Insight? I am researching what individuals think about Contemporary Asian Art Market. Over the years this particular art sector has shown increased sales at auctions which prompts me to ask would this market be wise for investment in the future? There are numeous variants that are to be considered in this question such as: Is this ascension a reflection upon the influences seen/applied by numerous Early to mid 20th Century artists and their corresponding pieces of work? OR Is the sector becoming more exposed due to the social/political/economical expression of the past which contemporary asian artists are bringing to light? Overall - I'm just looking for YOUR opinion on the matter - on the art itself - artists to watch - investment predicitions - anything and everything!! Thanks in advance.
Getting to be known in the art world!? Friend of mine is an excellent, free-hand caricacturist and cartoon artist, and wants to get his work known, and possibly sold, either through the internet, an agent, or via the open art market place. For the purposes of image capture, he uses an excellent camera, scanner, and computer system. Anyone our there with experiences to share regarding this competitive field?
