In my research I have come across various terms related to artists in the careers, such as emerging artist and mid-career artist. I assume an emerging artist is one that is just starting out. But what constitutes a mid-career artist? Thank you.

Is it normal to be an un-trained artist? I draw very well, some even told me I have to become an artist for my career. However, I have never had a single drawing class. Some dont appreciate this fact that no one thought me how to draw anime or their portrait. Is it THAT common to be a good artist with absolutely no training?
Is is stupid to pursue a career as an artist? Every since i picked up the pencil I knew art would be my passion...but my typical asian family has jammed into my head ever since i was little that i would be a doctor, nothing else. I'm currently 15 and am more than passionate about pursuing a career as a graphic designer, i do mainly cartoony anime stuff... but my family is much less convinced of my ability to live a healthy life on that salary. Is there anyone who has a career in the arts that could tell me something about it?
Do you have to learn this first to be a good drawing artist? Hi, I have no training as a drawing artist. I have never gone to school, college or even taken courses on drawing. My friends used to tell me that I had a good drawing skills but I never believed it. Now, years later, I would like to know if I can improve those skills and be a good artist for myself. I don't intent to make a career as an artist but to do it for enjoyment only. I would like to learn how to draw well. It does not matter if is the human figure, cartoon or anything else. All I want to do is be a good artist. My questions to you are very simple: What can I do learn how to draw well on my own? any books? I have leaned a great deal about the right side of the brain in drawing but would it help me expand? I never had the chance to go to college but I am curious as what they teach in the first years in art classes: Do they teach technique? If so what do they start with and what do they end with? What do they tell you to practice first? What do they tell you when you can't accomplish tasks? I have been going to the library for some time and have checked books on the so called "how to draw" but every technique is different. I would like to start by knowing what to learn as basics. I know it all depends on what I like draw but a little help would help a lot. Thank you!

Can someone realistically expect to get a good career as a makeup artist at a short-term vocational school? I am considering going to this makeup school that does not even take 2 months to complete. The tuition is below $2,000. If I complete the program, I'll be given a certifcate, and not a license of any kind. The program focuses just on beauty makeup....not on special-effect nakeup, or hair. This school is very well-known and popular, but I still have my doubts. It seems like an inexpensive and quick way to a career. What do you think?

Is it tougher to seek a career as an artist or a writer? Asking as narrative artist, so please say why.? I'm newly relocated so I'm updating my resume' and am divided about my direction. While it is true that I'm afraid of both the publishing industry and the galleries, (maybe afraid is the wrong word) , I'm tired of rejection slips and full stables that are not moving new artists. The reason I'm asking this question is to ponder some opinions. Both directions are negative gross for me at this time, and I better do something, before I'm one more lost soul out wandering in the streets. :-D Yikes!

While of course I will make my own choice based on what feels better, I'd be curious on what others would think about it too.

How do I ask a tattoo artist if I can apprentice? I am 17 years old and going into my junior year in high school, and through all this pressure of finding a college and career and crap, I am extremely interested in becoming a tattoo artist. I believe I'm a good artist and have a lot of accomplishments in art, and a developing portfolio. So with that being said, how do I become an apprentice? Do I just walk in, and ask "Can I apprentice?" I can't really "hang out" in my favorite tattoo shop because you have to be 18 to go in there alone (stupid laws.) Can anyone please give me any advice? Thanks in advance! I'm not tattooed at all, I plan to be, but I don't imagine I will be too heavily tattooed. I admire people who are, I'm just kind of a wimp to pain (meaning over bone..I'm fragile lol)
